Dylan Hartley and his Northampton Saints travel to Limerick and Thomond Park Stadium more in confidence than hope believing they left a game behind them last time and determined to put that right on the occasion of the quarter-final of the Heineken Cup.
Their number 8 Roger Wilson believes that the the January visit leaves them well placed to advance to the semi-final in their continuing quest for Triple glory this season having already captured the LV trophy.
“The good thing for us,” he says,” is that we know what to expect going over to Thomond Park. Last game was close, 12-9, last time we went over. The atmosphere can get to you, sort of inhibits you from playing the way you want to play. Maybe stops you thinking at crucial times and you maybe go into your shell a little bit.
“We were guilty of that so this time we know what to expect and it’ll not affect us too much this time.”
Northampton’s stated ambition is to add the Heineken Cup and Premiership title to the LV trophy according to Wilson. “That’s the plan. I don’t see why we can’t do it. Just continue that winning mentality.”
However he does acknowledge that tomorrow’s game presents a huge challenge. “Munster have rightfully been the best team in Europe over the past five, six seven seasons. They’ve won Heineken Cup, Magners titles. They’ve only lost once in Thomond in the Heineken. That how difficult it’s going to be.
“But we believe we can do it if everyone of the squad gives absolutely 100%. plays a little bit more with the head this time and just as much heart.”
The Saints, second in the Premiership table, will be dealing from a full deck and content in the knowledge that they have the type of game that will take them through to the semi-final. This time around they prefer Stephen Myler to Shane Geraghty at out-half. Geraghty who did such damage in Franklin’s Gardens bore the brunt of the criticism for Saints’ defeat last time they visited.
For their part Munster will be under no illusions about the task they face on Saturday evening. In losing the away Pool game, in the early stages, they made Northampton look fairly awesome but then came back to almost snatch victory. In the return, at Thomond Park in January, the English side led them a merry dance for long periods, but like others before them, most recently ASM Clermont Auvergne, they paid for being able to put the team in red away.
Munster will know that they have to cut out the errors and lower the penalty count that has cost them dearly in recent games.
They’ll know too that they will need to reproduce the sort of performance that they delivered in Perpignan if they’re to see off what is going to be a massive challenge.

The 29 year old Ireland International Sevens player’s five previous appearances in the competition have come off the bench but tomorrow he wins his 40th Munster cap having debuted in 2006 against Cardiff Blues at The Arms Park.
Coughlan’s inclusion at number 8 means David Wallace moves back to the openside while Keith Earls’ recovery from a groin injury leaves the backline showing just one change from the one that played the Saints back in January, Earls renewing his centre partnership with Jean de Villiers while Lifeimi Mafi is named on the bench.
Further good news for Munster is that their other groin injury sufferer, Paul O’Connell, has also been included in the side. The captain and Earls both trained in Cork yesterday and both will be expected to take part in the Catain’s Run this evening.

With two World Championship titles and four successive European Championship wins under her belt, not to mention a starring role on the Ireland women’s football team, sporting hero Katie Taylor knows better than most what it takes to get a team into top shape for a world class performance as preparations get underway nationwide for the 2010 Danone Big Toddle for Barnardos.
The sporting star gave an impromptu ‘team talk’ to the assembled team of tiny athletes from St Anne’s Community Pre-school in Fettercairn, Tallaght today, to help them prepare for the forthcoming Danone Big Toddle for Barnardos.
This is the sixth year that the St Anne’s Pre School toddle team will participate in the annual charity event, which sees over 22,000 toddlers from all over Ireland take part in locally organised sponsored walks during May and June.
‘Barnardos Celebrity Coach’, Katie Taylor commended the St Anne’s Community Pre-School for their continued passion and commitment to the Danone Big Toddle for Barnardos, which has seen them raise over €2600 for Barnardos, Ireland’s leading children’s charity.
“The boys and girls of St Annes have delivered a terrific performance for the last 5 years – they can be proud of the difference that their tiny steps have made to the lives of vulnerable children in Ireland who really need our help. Barnardos target is to raise €350,000 through the Toddle in 2010, making this the biggest fundraising event for the charity this year.

For many people the highlight of the five-day Royal Ascot meeting, the Group 1 Ascot Gold Cup run on ‘Ladies Day’, the third day of the fixture, is a race full of history and champion stayers whose names live long in the memory, writes Elliot Slater.

In a year in which there are a number of lively veteran candidates for the John Smith’s Grand National, Oliver Sherwood’s Eric’s Charm comes into the race in fine form and could well give supporters a serious run for their money at a big price with Grand National 2010 betting, writes Elliot Slater.
The 12-year-old fairly bolted up in the three-and-three-quarter mile London National Chase at Sandown in December off a mark of 135 and has been allotted a racing weight for Aintree of 10st 9lbs, reflecting an 8lb rise in his mark. Essentially Eric’s Charm’s current figure suggests that the horse is remarkably running to a very similar level of form to five years ago when he was considered one of the up-and-coming young chasing stars.
A winner of 10 of his 34 career starts, Sherwood’s grand servant has a particular liking for Sandown, a track where he has won twice and only narrowly failed to win the Betfred Gold Cup (formerly the Whitbred Gold Cup) in 2006. In 2008 Eric’s Charm ran his one and only race thus far over the daunting Aintree fences and only got as far as the sixth when coming a cropper whilst racing in the leading group.
Hopefully that experience won’t have put the French bred gelding off the unique Liverpool course and being a generally sound jumper there are good reasons for believing that he can put in a very respectable performance. Although he appears to handle anything other than fast ground, it seems that with the passing of the years the veteran prefers to get his toe in, and should the ground ride on the soft side of good that can only be a positive indication to his chances.
When placing your bet on Aintree Grand National, consider that this is horse who handles the big occasion well, has been specifically trained for the race this year and is a relentless stayer, Eric’s Charm (a 100/1 chance) can roll back the years and finish with more behind than in front on April 10.

Who would have believed that the gardens created by Col. William Hall-Walker on a boggy site on his Tully estate between 1906 to 1910 would one day attract thousands of Visitors from all over the world. Designed by the Japanese landscape gardener Tassa Eida with the help of the farm workers over this four year period, these gardens tell the story of ‘The Life of Man’ from the cradle to the grave and are acclaimed as the most beautiful Japanese gardens in Europe
Hall-Walker gave the Stud at Tully as a gift to the British Government in 1915, who in return bestowed on him the title of Lord Wavertree. Tully continued as the British National Stud (known locally as Tully Stud) until in 1943 it was handed over to the Irish Government. In 1945 the Irish National Stud Company was formed and it was this company who restored the gardens ( which had fallen into a state of disrepair) to their former glory.
In the early fifties the Irish National Stud Company opened the Japanese Gardens to the Public on a Sunday afternoon, over time this increased to 7 days a week 11 months of the year from February to December. During this time a lot of interest was shown in the Stud so it was decided to open the Stud for guided tours. Then came the Horse Museum, a Visitor centre which houses a Restaurant and a Gift shop. For the Millennium an Irish garden was created on the land known as St. Fiachra’s Garden. All four are now known as the Irish National Stud Visitor Attraction and is rated among the top 20 Visitor Attractions on the island of Ireland.
The Japanese Gardens, on the grounds of the Irish National Stud are situated on the east coast of Ireland 30 miles south of Dublin off the M7 and the R 415. This is a most unique attraction and well worth a visit especially in its Centenary year 2010.

Some of Ireland’s leading women writers and feminists will gather at the Dublin Book Festival on Monday to celebrate International Woman’s Day.
A posthumous book from Nuala Ó Faolain, A More Complex Truth: Selected Writings will be launched on the final day of the festival, which commenced on Saturday, while the legacies of feminism will be debated by Susan McKay, Ivana Bacik, Caitríona Crowe and Margaret MacCurtain, chaired by Anthea McTeirnan.
Over 100 writers have been flocking to Dublin City Hall for the three-day festival, which features contributions from leading Irish authors, poets and journalists. Over the weekend top Irish writers, including Nell McCafferty, Gordon Snell, Thomas Kilroy, Mary Kenny and Eileen Battersby were interviewed by fellow authors, while poets Theo Dorgan, Geraldine Mills, Paddy Bushe, Pól Ó Muirí and Rosita Boland read from their work.
The festival is also playing host to a series of lively public debates. On Saturday Diarmaid Ferriter, Ruan O’Donnell and Niamh O’Sullivan lead a charged discussion on Ireland’s rebel history and Caroline Walsh, Carlo Gébler, Greg Baxter and Siobhán Parkinson explored the role of the literary critic. On Monday sports journalists Gavin Cummiskey, Gerry Thornley and Liam Toland will examine the state of sports writing in Ireland and employment experts and authors Lisa O’Callaghan, Andrew McCann and Frank Scott-Lennon will lead a discussion on surviving redundancy.
A specially constructed bookshop showcases the best of Irish publishing and the festival café will serve refreshments daily between 10am and 6pm.
Entry to all festival events is free and no booking is required, but seats can be reserved for certain events (see www.bookfestival.com for details).
The Festival’s Artistic Director, Alan Hayes, says the festival has been a huge success. “Early indications are that a record number visited the festival this year. The recession seems to have reignited people’s interest in books and literature,” said Mr Hayes.
Now in its third year, the Dublin Book Festival celebrates the diversity and creativity in contemporary Irish writing and publishing, and is organised by Publishing Ireland, supported by the Department of Art, Sport and Tourism; the Irish Times; Foras na Gaeilge; the Arts Council, Dublin City Council; Dublin City Libraries and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

Saturday’s Grade 2 Bathwick Tyres Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton will hopefully answer some serious questions about the wellbeing of three contenders for the championship crown at the Cheltenham 2010 next month, writes Elliot Slater.
Since he won the Champion Hurdle 11 months ago I have been very sweet on the chances of Nicky Henderson’s Punjabi retaining the title. This season the Komaite gelding did nothing wrong on his debut when far from fully tuned up, shaping well until the run to the last flight when he blew up and faded into fourth behind the impressive Khyber Kim in the International Hurdle at Cheltenham. His subsequent defeat at the hands of another very good horse, Medermit, in a four-horse race on desperate ground at Haydock is best ignored.
Last year Punjabi came to the Kingwell and was a beaten favourite before going on to win the big one four weeks later. There is no doubt that Punjabi saves his best for Cheltenham and I would urge supporters not to give up faith.
Celestial Halo, who won the Grade 2 Elite Hurdle at Wincanton in November, was odds-on when subsequently beaten by Khyber Kim, and then could only finish fourth at Leopardstown last time in the Irish Champion Hurdle. He is still a very smart horse and Paul Nicholls will undoubtedly be hoping that the return to Wincanton brings out the best in his horse who lost by only a neck to Punjabi at Cheltenham last year.
With the fast improving Starluck, a short-head second to Go Native in Kempton’s Grade 1 Christmas Hurdle also in the line-up, the Kingwell Hurdle promises to answer plenty of questions about three serious championship contenders.
It is possible that Starluck might just come out best on the day, but I still believe that come the Cheltenham Festival Punjabi will be at his peak and prove hard to beat in the main event.

UN-Habitat and the Government of Brazil have started preparations for the fifth session of the Urban World Forum, scheduled in Rio de Janeiro 22-26 March 2010. The Forum is one of the most open and inclusive gatherings of its kind on the international stage. It brings together government leaders, ministers, mayors, diplomats, members of national, regional and international associations of local governments, non-governmental and community organizations, professionals, academics, grassroots women’s organizations, youth and slum dwellers groups as partners working for better cities. The fifth session in Rio builds on the lessons and successes of the previous four events.
With half of humanity already living in towns and cities, it is projected that in the next 50 years, two-thirds of us will be living in towns and cities. A major challenge is to minimize burgeoning poverty in cities, improve access of the urban poor to basic facilities such as shelter, clean water and sanitation and to achieve environmentally friendly, sustainable urban growth and development.
The theme for Rio 2010, The right to the City – “bridging the urban divide” is in harmony with UN-HABITAT’s flagship report, State of the World’s Cities 2010-2011.

The fashion stakes are set to be higher than ever, when legendary Irish milliner Philip Treacy, in conjunction with the Design Centre, will be on hand the Hennessy Gold Cup Best Dressed on Sunday 7th February 2010, when Ireland’s most glamorous ladies will demonstrate the ultimate in style and elegance in the hope of walking away with the grand prize of €4,000 for the Hennessy Gold Cup Best Dressed, in association with The Design Centre.
The sporting and social highlight of the racing calendar, The Hennessy Best Dressed recognises style in its truest form, distinguishing those with inherent elegance, originality and vibrancy. This year marks the 4th year of the hugely successful Hennessy Best Dressed, in association with the Design Centre and significantly marks the 20th running of the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown Racecourse.
The winning lady will be presented with a €4,000 voucher from The Design Centre, in the Powerscourt Centre and one lucky runner-up will receive a voucher for €1,000 from the fashion house that boasts collections from established and up-and-coming Irish and international designers including, John Rocha, Preen, Ben De Lisi, Synan O‘Mahony and John McCormack.
Judging criteria for the Hennessy Best Dressed, in association with The Design Centre will include the appropriateness of outfits for daytime winter racing, as well as the consistency and harmony of style throughout the entire outfit. Headwear and outerwear (coat/fur/stole) will be mandatory on the day and, above all else, the demonstration of an appreciation of elegance, glamour and luxury will be of paramount importance in the judging process.
For the first time ever this year, and due to the popular demand, stylish ladies are invited to pre-register for the Hennessy Best Dressed in association with the Design Centre at www.hennessybestdressed.ie . Alternatively, registration will also take place on the day in the Tote Hall at the venue.

When it comes to Italian restaurants, the Topolis at 37 Parliament Street in Temple Bar is the real deal. Even the homemade bread has the rub of the garlic. Its location adjacent to the City Hall with its adjoining civic open space places it close to a popular focal point for tourists. The location’s main advantage is being part of the vibrant lifestyle which is Temple Bar – a 24-7 destiny for – shall we say – socialising Irish style. Naturally, in the Topolis, the 12 inch pizza looms large on the menu which indicates a selection of 16 which are cooked in situ in their woodstone oven. There is real substance to the wide range of ingredients and the evidence of the popularity of the Topolis pizza range is being surrounded by customer tucking in with relish in a restaurant with 80 covers. The kitchen is the scene of heavy duty cooking and diligent preparation of meals. A glance at the substantial nature of the starters is sufficient evidence alone. Much fancied are the deep fried mushrooms stuffed with gorgonzola cheese or the tiger prawns wrapped in filo pastry. The selection of meats, olives, artichokes and parmesan make Antipasto Misto a strong preference. The Pasta meals are so appealing that several visits to Topolis will be necessary to satisfy your enjoyment of the best of Italian spaghetti and lasagne dishes with their delectable accompaniments.
A quality selection of fine wines are listed, but this Italian restaurant admits Chilean wines are emerging as the most popular.

Surely the real source of enjoyment on a holiday is to experience something different. Located in the heart of this popular inner city thoroughfare is the stylish Gourmet Burger Kitchen, a U.K. franchise which has seven outlets in Ireland including the Six Counties.
